India, Aug. 31 -- Proclaimed by the UN, International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances is being observed on August 31. It is the day created to draw attention to the fate of individuals imprisoned at places and under poor conditions unknown to their relatives and/or legal representatives. The observance affords an opportunity to highlight these institutions' work, increase public awareness, and to call for donations and volunteers.
