Shillong, Oct. 20 -- For about a month now, emergency services, popularly known as GVK EMRI 108 Ambulance, across the eleven districts in Meghalaya have remained affected after over 200 employees of the 108 ambulance service went on strike since September 30, 2019. Under the banner of the Meghalaya Emergency Management and Research Institute Workers' Union (MEMRIWU), the employees have been demanding the state government to terminate the contract with the GVK EMRI and take over the emergency services on the ground that it is fully funded by the government.
