SHILLONG, Aug. 18 -- The local cabbies in town are known for all sorts of notoriety, ranging from refusing to go in a particular route, overcharging, dropping passengers short of their destination and, of late, these cabbies are refusing to ferry commuters on sharing basis.Carpooling, a common sight in the town, is being challenged illegally by several local cabbies here forcing passengers either to give in to their demands or look for alternatives. The lack of public transport is also allowing many cabbies to have their say whereas the state authorities are caught in slumber, according to the affected ones.
