SHILLONG, Dec. 19 -- The resolution to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state, moved by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, was unanimously adopted by Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Thursday. The resolution is to urge the Centre to implement the ILP under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act (BEFRA), 1873 in the state of Meghalaya to safeguard the interests of the indigenous people of the state.Members across party lines came up in support of the resolution that also seeks to make necessary amendment to the BEFRA for inclusion of "Meghalaya" in the preamble.
