KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 27 -- A 54-year-old woman died after a lorry struck her while she was crossing the road at KM75.5 Jalan Johor Baru-Batu Pahat in Pontian.

The incident occurred around 11.40am yesterday, according to Pontian district police chief Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib, as reported by The Star.

"Initial investigations suggest the accident happened when the woman was crossing from the right to the left," he said in a statement.

"Due to the close distance, the 28-year-old lorry driver swerved and hit the victim on the road shoulder," he added.

Police confirmed the woman died at the scene from severe head injuries, while the lorry driver was unharmed.
