Kuala Lampur, Feb. 17 -- Since its defeat in the 2024 election, the Conservative Party has been relegated to the role of the official Opposition as it is the second largest party in the UK House of Commons.

The party's leader, Kemi Badenoch, who won the leadership election on November 2, 2024 accordingly assumes the role of the Leader of the Opposition.

The Leader of the Opposition was, by convention, the leader of the largest political party in the House of Commons that was not in government. It is now provided for by legislation.

Section 2 of the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975 provides for the holder of the office to be an MP "who is for the time being the Leader in that House of the party in opposition to Her Majesty's Gove...
