KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 19 -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has imposed RM100,000 fines each on Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad and Sinar Karangkraf Sdn Bhd following authorisation from the Attorney General's Chambers.

MCMC said Sin Chew Media was penalised for publishing an incomplete illustration of the Malaysian flag on its digital newspaper platform.

Sinar Karangkraf faced action for posting false information about the inspector-general of police on its official Instagram account, involving claims about leadership positions in a local political party.

Both investigations were conducted under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, with penalties under Section 233(2).
