KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 5 -- Malaysian rapper Namewee has denied allegations that he was on the run from police, saying he voluntarily reported himself to assist investigations into the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin.

In a statement today, Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, said he travelled from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur to meet the police as arranged.

"Earlier, I had already made an appointment with the police to lodge a report and report myself," he said.

He added that he has now arrived at the police station and will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation, posting a video of him outside as evidence.
