KUCHING, Oct. 12 -- A four-year-old boy from Samarahan who was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) after suffering seizures died on Oct 8 from brain inflammation (encephalitis), according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The ministry in a statement said initial investigations had found that the child had developed a high fever on Oct 5 and sought treatment at a private clinic the following day.

"On the way home from the clinic, he experienced seizures and was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

"Due to his critical condition, he was admitted to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) but could not be saved despite medical efforts," the statement read.
