KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 12 -- The body of a 97-year-old man reported missing after a mudslide struck Kampung Sarapung in Penampang, Sabah yesterday was recovered by search and rescue (SAR) teams this morning.
He was found buried on the ground floor of his house at 10:35am and extracted by firemen 10 minutes later.
Penampang Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Senior Fire Officer Zeno Tinggalan, said the second day of SAR operations involved clearing debris, cutting trees, and manual digging while awaiting excavator assistance from the Public Works Department (JKR).
"The victim was carried 750 metres to a safe area with help from police and villagers before being handed over to authorities. The operation concluded at 11:30am," he said.
