GEORGE TOWN, Sept. 11 -- Private jetties in Penang will soon be required to apply for licences under the Penang Port Commission (PPC).
PPC chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin said there are currently 38 private jetties under the commission's jurisdiction in the state.
He said the PPC, in collaboration with Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB), regularly monitors private jetties operating within port limits.
"Most of these are used by fishermen while some are used for handling commodities other than seafood," he said in a statement today.
Yeoh said proactive measures are now being taken to engage jetty owners and explain requirements and operational guidelines.
