China Unicom appoints new president after ten-month gap
India, Jan. 18 -- After ten months, China Unicom Group has finally filled its vacant president's post.
The new president is Chen Zhongyue, 49, previously executive vice president and deputy party secretary at China Telecom.
As a top position at one of the big state-owned corporations, the appointment was made by the Communist Party's powerful organization department.
The previous president, Li Guohua, retired last March.
Chen was also appointed deputy party secretary and board member, making him no. 2 in the company hierarchy behind Wang Xiaochu, who holds the posts of chairman, CEO and most important party secretary.
The China Unicom Group is the parent of China Unicom Hong Kong, a listed stock in Hong Kong.
