India, May 26 -- Over 1,000 cases of the new COVID-19 variant have been reported in India as of 26 May 2025. Cities like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra have recorded a spike in cases recently. This new spike in COVID-19 cases has been linked to the emergence of a new variant, JN.1. A sub-lineage of the Omicron variant, JN.1, is currently being closely monitored by health authorities for potential changes in its transmissibility and symptom profile.
