A show that once set the standard for television culture faltered heavily in its final stretch, essentially abandoning its overly ambitious plans in a rushed and unsatisfying conclusion. Yet the series only skimmed the surface of the world it inhabited. The political conflict we followed unfolded over a relatively brief period. The continents of Westeros, Essos, and beyond carry histories stretching back millennia. Wars far bloodier than the Stark-Lannister conflict have been fought.
