New Delhi, Jan. 5 -- The recent escalation in the US-Venezuela situation is expected to have a negligible impact on India's trade and energy interests, according to the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI).

The assessment follows a major US military operation in Venezuela on January 4, during which American forces reportedly detained President Nicolas Maduro and his wife and transferred them to the United States to face charges including narco-terrorism and drug trafficking.

Trade Links Already Marginal

GTRI founder Ajay Srivastava said India's economic exposure to Venezuela has diminished sharply over recent years due to international sanctions.

"India faces negligible impact, as trade with Venezuela has collapsed under sanctions,...
