New Delhi, May 28 -- India has taken a significant step towards bolstering its defence capabilities by approving a new execution model for the development of its indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter jet, the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA).

This initiative, sanctioned by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, opens the project to private sector participation alongside the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

Traditionally, HAL has been the sole entity responsible for fighter jet production in India.

However, the new model allows private companies to bid independently, form consortia, or collaborate with foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to participate in the AMCA project.
