New Delhi, July 15 -- Indian Railways is set to boost passenger safety by installing advanced CCTV surveillance systems in all 74,000 passenger coaches and 15,000 locomotives across the country.
This major move comes after successful trials in the Northern Railway zone and was recently approved in a high-level review meeting led by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu.
Each passenger coach will be fitted with four dome cameras certified by the Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification (STQC).
These cameras will be installed at entry points and key movement areas like corridors, without invading private zones such as seating or sleeping compartments.
