New Delhi, Dec. 2 -- The Government has outlined significant expansions in India's refining and clean-fuel ecosystem, projecting an increase in the country's total refining capacity from the current 258.1 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to 309.5 MMTPA by 2030.

The Petrochemical Intensity Index (PII) of public sector refineries is also expected to rise substantially from 4.1 to about 9.3 after the completion of ongoing and planned projects.

In written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Suresh Gopi, outlined several initiatives designed to advance the use of biofuels, green hydrogen, and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
