New Delhi, June 12 -- India's renewable energy sector continued its upward trajectory with a 17.13 per cent year-on-year increase in total capacity, reaching 226.74 gigawatts (GW) in May 2025, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi announced on Wednesday.
Sharing the update on social media platform X, Joshi credited the growth to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, "India's #RenewableEnergy sector has witnessed unprecedented growth. From solar to wind energy, our nation is paving the way for a brighter and more sustainable future!"
The surge is largely attributed to the sharp rise in solar power capacity, which expanded by 31.49 per cent, growing from 84.28 GW in May 2024 to 110.83 GW in May 2025....
