Chandigarh, Nov. 25 -- Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi inaugurated a 240 tonnes per day (TPD) biomass pellet plant in Rewari on Sunday, calling it a major boost to Haryana's clean energy expansion.
The Minister noted that the Centre has recently introduced a policy requiring all coal-based thermal power plants to co-fire biomass pellets or torrefied municipal solid waste (MSW) charcoal.
While plants across India must blend 5 percent biomass, Delhi-NCR units must reach a 7 percent mix, with at least half sourced from local crop residue.
He emphasised the need for improved waste segregation and stronger regulatory systems to ensure the availability of quality MSW-based charcoal.
