New Delhi, March 27 -- The Indian electronics manufacturing landscape has undergone a dramatic transformation, with mobile phone production emerging as a cornerstone of the nation's industrial development.

From a mere two mobile manufacturing units in 2014 to over 300 today, the sector has witnessed an extraordinary evolution, driven by strategic government initiatives like the 'Make in India' program and the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, central government said on Wednesday.

Local mobile phone manufacturing has experienced a remarkable surge, escalating from 26 percent of domestic sales in 2014-15 to an impressive 99.2 percent by December 2024.
