This unprecedented surge marks the first time the city's power demand has exceeded 5,000 MW during December, surpassing previous records of 4,884 MW in 2023 and 4,964 MW in 2022.

The winter power consumption pattern appears to be following the trajectory set during summer, when the city witnessed a record-breaking demand of 8,656 MW.

According to officials, winter power demand is expected to climb further, potentially reaching 6,300 MW, following last winter's peak of 5,816 MW recorded on January 22.
