Afghanistan, Feb. 18 -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that his country might face the same fate as Afghanistan. In an interview with a German media outlet, he emphasized that if Ukraine does not join NATO, Afghanistan's experience could be repeated in his country. He urged the West to avoid making the same mistakes.
In the same interview, Zelensky referred to the hasty withdrawal of Western forces from Afghanistan in 2021. He stated that any negotiations ignoring Ukraine's fundamental demands would be unacceptable. Responding to the U.S. Secretary of Defense's remarks that Ukraine would not be joining NATO, he insisted that this issue should not be easily dismissed.
