Afghanistan, Oct. 9 -- WHO and UNICEF vaccinated 8.9 million children across 17 provinces of Afghanistan during the first phase of a nationwide measles campaign aimed at curbing rising infections.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, in collaboration with Afghanistan's National Expanded Programme on Immunization (NEPI), have successfully completed the first phase of a nationwide measles vaccination campaign, reaching 8.9 million children across 17 cold-climate provinces. Supported by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the campaign targeted children aged six months to ten years, marking one of the largest public health drives in the country since the Taliban's takeover.
