Afghanistan, June 26 -- The NATO Secretary Jens Stoltenberg said the international community is closer to a peace deal in Afghanistan.

He made the remarks in his doorstep statement ahead of the meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels.

Stoltenberg said "We are closer to a peace deal now than we have ever been before in Afghanistan."

Stoltenberg further added that all NATO Allies strongly support the peace efforts in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Stoltenberg said the best way support the peace efforts is to stay committed to Afghanistan and to continue to provide political support to the country.

He also emphasized on continued to support the Afghan army and security forces with trainers and with funding.
