Afghanistan, Dec. 1 -- The United States has urged Venezuela's president to relinquish power immediately, escalating diplomatic pressure as political tensions and international concerns over democratic stability continue to rise.
U.S. media reported that Washington has warned Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro that it is prepared to guarantee his and his family's safety if he steps down immediately. The Miami Herald said the offer includes "safe passage" in exchange for his prompt resignation.
Sources familiar with the talks say Caracas officials are negotiating a possible transfer of political authority to opposition groups, while the military command structure would remain under current leadership for now.
