Afghanistan, Feb. 17 -- Fighting erupted after militants from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan launched an explosive-laden vehicle attack on a security checkpoint, killing 11 soldiers and triggering intense gun battles with responding troops.

Security officials in Pakistan confirmed that 12 militants were also killed during the operation, which occurred in Bajaur district following a powerful explosion near military positions.
