Afghanistan, Jan. 22 -- CENTCOM says the US has moved 150 ISIS prisoners from Syria to Iraq as part of a broader plan to secure around 7,000 detainees.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that 150 ISIS prisoners have been safely transferred from a detention facility in Hasakah, Syria, to a secure location in Iraq under US control.
This transfer follows the rapid collapse of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) positions in northeastern Syria, raising concerns over the security of multiple prisons and detention camps under their supervision.
CENTCOM said that ultimately up to 7,000 ISIS detainees could be moved from Syria to US-controlled facilities in Iraq as part of a long-term stabilization and security plan.
