Afghanistan, Jan. 23 -- In the sideline of a meeting in Davos, US President Donald Trump reiterated to his Afghan counterpart, Ashraf Ghani, on Wednesday that he wants to see a significant drop in violence by the Taliban fighters before the peace negotiations reach to a final agreement.

The White House said, "President Trump emphasizes on the need for a lasting reduction in violence by the Taliban that would facilitate meaningful negotiations on Afghanistan peace and reconsolidation."

A reduction in violence is the key priority and a condition for a smooth transition to the peace deal and the agreement that would lead US forces to leave Afghanistan.
