Afghanistan, July 15 -- Thousands of Afghan nationals in the U.S. now face deportation after the official termination of their Temporary Protected Status.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has officially implemented the revocation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for thousands of Afghan nationals. The decision, enacted on Monday, July 14, affects over 9,000 Afghans currently residing in the United States under this status.
TPS for Afghan citizens was initially granted in May 2022 due to war and humanitarian crises in Afghanistan. Although it had been extended until May 2025, the 60-day implementation window for its termination has now concluded, making the revocation effective.
