Afghanistan, June 26 -- A new UNODC report reveals 27,000 Afghans engaged in high-risk drug use, facing poverty, lack of education, homelessness, and serious social and health consequences.

The UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has released a new report that sheds light on the troubling scale of high-risk drug use in Afghanistan. The study paints a stark picture of addiction's impact, showing widespread social and economic vulnerabilities across the country.

The report was officially released on 26 June 2025 in Kabul. It estimates that around 27,000 people, including 2,670 women and 2,150 children under 15, are engaged in high-risk drug use, with nearly half lacking formal education and one in five living without shelter.
