Afghanistan, Oct. 1 -- The UN has warned that Afghanistan's nationwide internet blackout is disrupting earthquake relief, leaving remote survivors cut off from aid, financial services, and vital humanitarian coordination efforts.

United Nations aid agencies say the nationwide internet blackout in Afghanistan has severely hampered efforts to reach remote communities devastated by last month's deadly earthquakes.

Indrika Ratwatte, the UN's humanitarian coordinator in Afghanistan, said on Tuesday, September 30, that all telephone and fiber-optic services had been cut "until further notice," leaving nearly the entire country offline.
