Afghanistan, Sept. 13 -- The United Nations has warned that 9.5 million people in Afghanistan face severe food insecurity, with 1.6 million enduring emergency levels of hunger.
The United Nations Secretary-General, in his latest quarterly report, has warned that nearly 9.5 million people in Afghanistan are facing severe food insecurity, with 1.6 million in emergency conditions.
According to the report, the World Food Programme (WFP) was able to assist 8 million Afghans between April and June, distributing more than 50,000 metric tonnes of food and 31 million dollars in cash aid. However, funding shortages have sharply reduced its capacity, leaving it able to support only one million people at present.
