Afghanistan, Feb. 4 -- The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to hold a meeting Wednesday to review terrorism threats, including activities of ISIS and its Khorasan branch across the region.
According to the council, discussions will center on the UN Secretary-General's twenty-second strategic report assessing threats posed by ISIS to international peace and global security.
The report notes that ISIS-Khorasan remains active in northern Afghanistan, particularly in areas near the Pakistan border, maintaining operational capacity capable of launching regional attacks.
The statement also referenced a January 19 attack in Kabul attributed to ISIS-K that killed six Afghan civilians and one Chinese citizen.
