Afghanistan, Sept. 28 -- The United Nations has reimposed sweeping sanctions on Iran after ten years, targeting arms, energy, finance, and key officials, following the trigger mechanism's activation.
All previous United Nations sanctions against Iran were automatically reinstated early Sunday after the expiration of a 30-day deadline under Security Council Resolution 2231.
The snapback was triggered after France, Germany and Britain activated the mechanism built into the 2015 nuclear deal, arguing that Tehran had breached its commitments. Iran rejected the allegations, insisting it is not pursuing nuclear weapons and that its programme remains civilian in nature.
