Afghanistan, Aug. 29 -- The UK Refugee Council urges granting temporary residency to asylum seekers from five countries, enabling the government to end hotel accommodations, improve integration, and reduce social tensions.
The Refugee Council has called on the UK government to grant limited residency to eligible individuals from Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iran, Sudan, and Syria, enabling the phase-out of hotels for refugee accommodation within months.
In a report released yesterday, August, 28, the council warned that continued use of hotels generates social tensions and may push residents toward extremist views. The organization described extending the hotel program until 2029 as "irresponsible."
