British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Thursday that the UK is seeking wider engagement with China as part of efforts to boost growth and strengthen security.

Starmer, the first British prime minister to visit Beijing in eight years, met President Xi Jinping during a four-day trip aimed at stabilising relations.

Despite concerns over espionage and human rights, Starmer has made improving ties with the world's second-largest economy a key priority of his government.
