Afghanistan, Dec. 22 -- The U.S. Coast Guard is pursuing a third sanctioned vessel near Venezuela, the White House said, as Washington intensifies efforts to disrupt illegal oil shipments and sanctions evasion.

A U.S. official said the Coast Guard is tracking a sanctioned oil tanker in international waters near Venezuela, as Washington steps up enforcement against illicit crude shipments.

The operation marks the third action in less than two weeks targeting vessels accused of helping Venezuela evade international oil sanctions, according to U.S. officials.

The tanker, sailing under a false flag, is part of an illegal network transporting Venezuelan oil and is subject to a judicial seizure order, the official said.
