Afghanistan, Jan. 17 -- President Donald Trump thanked Iran's leadership on Friday for cancelling the planned execution of over 800 protesters, a decision he said eased immediate tensions.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, the U.S. president said the executions had been scheduled for Friday but were called off at the last moment by Iranian authorities.

Trump told reporters that the cancellation influenced his own decision-making, saying no one persuaded him against military action and that Iran's move had a "big impact."
