Afghanistan, July 22 -- The U.S. has released 230,000 classified documents on Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, following a directive issued by Donald Trump.
The U.S. government has released a large collection of documents related to the 1968 assassination of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The FBI files, totaling around 230,000 pages, had been sealed from public view since 1977 under a court order. Their release follows a renewed push for transparency in high-profile historical cases.
King's family has strongly opposed the release. In a public statement, they condemned any potential "misuse of the documents to tarnish" Dr. King's legacy.
