Afghanistan, Jan. 15 -- President Donald Trump said he is unsure whether Reza Pahlavi could garner domestic support in Iran, as widespread protests and turmoil fuel speculation about Tehran's future.

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed doubt about whether Iranian crown prince Reza Pahlavi could rally enough support inside Iran to take power, according to an interview with Reuters.

"He seems like a very nice guy, but I don't know how he would do inside his own country," Trump said, adding that the situation had not yet reached that stage.

Trump said he was unsure whether Iranians would accept Pahlavi's leadership, but added that he would have "no problem" if the Iranian people chose him.
