Afghanistan, March 17 -- The Torkham border crossing, one of the most important transit and trade routes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, has been closed for nearly a month. While previous efforts to reopen the crossing have been unsuccessful, recent reports confirm that a meeting between Afghan and Pakistani traders is planned to discuss reopening the border crossing.

Local officials in Nangarhar announced on Monday, March 17, that a meeting of tribal elders and traders regarding the reopening of Torkham is currently taking place, with 27 Afghan tribal leaders and traders, along with 37 Pakistani representatives, in attendance.
