Afghanistan, Jan. 31 -- Thousands of families have fled Pakistan's Tirah Valley after mosque warnings of possible military operations against militants near the Afghanistan border.

Residents of Tirah district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa say thousands of families have left their homes following government warnings of a potential operation against militants.

Reuters reported on Saturday that tens of thousands from mountainous border areas evacuated despite heavy snowfall and freezing winter temperatures.

Local officials, speaking anonymously, told Reuters that displaced families are registering for assistance in surrounding areas as displacement continues.
