Afghanistan, April 17 -- The Taliban group had considered a reduction in violence in Doha talks which was organized ahead of the announcement of spring offensive by the group last Friday, sources privy of the development said.

The Taliban political leaders reportedly made the commitment during a meeting with Gen. Scott Miller, the commander of the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.

"In the Doha talks with the Taliban Gen Miller tried to lower the violence in Afghanistan to come closer to peace. Gen Miller told the Taliban he will always protect the Afghan Security Forces and the people of Afghanistan," the sources said.
