Afghanistan, Sept. 20 -- After more than eleven years of closure, the Syrian Embassy in Washington reopened, hailed by Damascus as a historic step towards restoring bilateral ties and dialogue.

The Syrian Embassy in Washington reopened on Friday after being closed for more than a decade, an event Syrian officials hailed as a "historic moment."

Foreign Minister Asad al-Shibani attended the reopening ceremony, raising Syria's new flag over the embassy building. He described the move as a symbol of 14 years of resilience.

Al-Shibani said the restoration of diplomatic representation in the United States offers a new opportunity to improve bilateral ties and create fresh channels of dialogue.
