Afghanistan, Aug. 7 -- Syria has signed $14 billion investment deals with foreign companies to modernize Damascus International Airport and construct a new metro system in the capital, boosting reconstruction efforts.

In a landmark step toward rebuilding the war-torn nation, the Syrian government has signed international contracts worth $14 billion with companies from multiple countries. The deals span infrastructure, transportation, and real estate sectors.

Among the most prominent agreements are a $4 billion project to modernize Damascus International Airport and a $2 billion plan to construct a metro system in the capital. These deals were signed with companies from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
