Afghanistan, Dec. 4 -- SIGAR's final report says the United States spent $148 billion over two decades in Afghanistan, but corruption, mismanagement and collapse erased most gains.

The U.S. Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) stated on Wednesday that Washington's decades-long effort to build stability and democracy in Afghanistan failed despite an investment of more than $148 billion.

Much of the equipment, facilities, and military assets funded by the United States eventually fell into Taliban hands after the group returned to power in 2021, the report adds.
