Afghanistan, May 16 -- Hadi Matar, who attacked author Salman Rushdie in 2022, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for attempted murder.
Hadi Matar, the man who stabbed author Salman Rushdie during a 2022 lecture at the Chautauqua Institution in New York, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for attempted murder. The 27-year-old was convicted in February 2025 after a trial where Rushdie testified about the brutal attack. Matar also received a concurrent seven-year sentence for assaulting event moderator Henry Reese.
