Afghanistan, Sept. 7 -- A major Russian drone assault on Kyiv has killed two civilians, including a one-year-old child, and injured 11 others, Ukrainian officials confirmed Sunday.

Kyiv city authorities reported that wreckage from downed drones struck several residential buildings across the capital. Emergency crews pulled the body of the child from the rubble.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko said fires erupted in the Sviatoshynskyi and Darnytskyi districts following impacts. Thick plumes of smoke rose near government offices, though it remains unclear if they were targeted.

Ukraine's air force said Russia launched dozens of Shahed-type drones overnight, marking one of the most intense barrages in weeks. Most were intercepted by air defenses.
