Afghanistan, Jan. 24 -- Russian and Ukrainian negotiators met in Abu Dhabi to discuss territorial control, considered the most challenging obstacle to ending the ongoing war.

Russian negotiators reportedly insist on full control of the eastern Donbas industrial region, while Ukraine maintains territorial disputes remain central to discussions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the Abu Dhabi talks primarily revolved around territorial disagreements, with U.S. officials participating as mediators in the discussions.

Rostem Umrov, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council and head of the Ukrainian delegation, said the talks focused on frameworks for ending the war and the logic for continuing negotiations.
